9 months agoThe Kardiac Kids were back at it last night. Chisago Lakes B2 Peewees extended their season with yet another thrilling overtime victory, defeating The East Metro Stars 3-2 in front of a packed house at the St Croix Rec Center for the District 2 Playoffs.
It was another uphill climb for the boys, with East Metro taking the early lead, up 2-0 just 3 min into the 2nd period. But as they tend to do, the Cats climbed back in. Liam Ahrens scored two in the second to send the Cats to the dressing room at the end of the 2nd tied 2-2 and outshooting East Metro 32-16.
The third period was a scoreless back-and-forth tennis match of chances. Cat's goaltender Zac Yechout was solid, keeping the door shut on all twenty shots he faced after the Starts last goal early in the 2nd.
The story of the night was a toss-up between Ahern's phenomenal performance and the stellar goaltending of East Metro's Isaac Tushaus, who turned away one great play after another by the Wildcats, who totaled fifty shots on goal for the evening. In the end, it was Aherns taking the spotlight. With under a minute to play in the first overtime, Aherns put on his 3rd stick-handling clinic of the evening to complete his hat trick, making the final 3-2 Wildcats. Ahern's three goals bring his season total to an impressive 42 goals in 40 games.
The win moves the Wildcats on to face number one-seeded Mahtomedi Blue tonight in Stillwater at 6:30 pm. You can catch the game live on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/@ChisagoLakesHoc...
